Fully active loudspeaker systems dispense with passive crossovers found in conventional loudspeakers in favor of inserting the crossovers before the amplifier. The benefits include increased flexibility of filter shapes, the ability to make fine-grained adjustments resulting in improved on and off axis response (these are often competing objectives in passive loudspeakers), direct coupling of the loudspeaker to the driver (avoiding losses inherent in passive crossovers), and higher SLP with lower distortion. The Bryston Model T Active Loudspeaker was built to be exceptionally high quality and affordable, while bringing superior design to the table. New driver designs, enclosure vibration analysis, and anechoic chamber testing all went into creating an amazing product. A “state of the art” audio system involves what some refer to as a “suspension of disbelief”. This means the playback system transcends the recorded medium and transports you to a live venue. You forget it’s a recording and believe you are there at the live performance. Our goal with the Bryston Model T Active loudspeaker is to provide our customers with a superior level of “disbelief”.

The Bryston Model Active Loudspeaker requires the BAX-1 Active DSP Crossover and three amplifier channels per speaker.

21B³ Amplifier

The Bryston 21B³ three channel amplifier was crafted to provide superb amplification for your Bryston Active Loudspeaker System. The Bryston 21B³ is essentially composed of a 7B³ and a 4B³ amplifier, which provides plenty of power for a single active loudspeaker. Two of these amplifiers will drive your active system with breath-taking ease and clarity.

BAX-1 Digital Crossover

The BAX-1 is a state of the art DSP crossover that is specially programmed at the factory for compatibility with your specific model of Bryston Active Loudspeaker. It is comprised of two channels of analog to digital conversion which converts incoming full range analog audio from your preamplifier to an equivalent digital audio signal, sampled at 96kHz and decimated to 24 bits. The signal is then passed to a high-powered DSP core which performs the 3-way crossover function for each channel, and applies any user selected filters desired for altering the bass response of the loudspeakers in the room. Three bands of audio per channel are then passed to 6 digital to analog converters followed by fully discrete balanced analog outputs, which in turn feeds 3 amplifier channels per loudspeaker.
